Announcing Chord Drift on WUTC 88.1 FM

I’m back on the air! Monday nights at 21:00 Eastern Time on WUTC 88.1 FM Chattanooga and on-line at wutc.org (link to come).

What is Chord Drift, you ask?

It is a jam band show, nominally. I take liberties with the assignment, touching on prog rock, jazz, blues, Americana, country, psychedelia, and weirdly wonderful little ditties.

In episode №1 I bounce all around the room. So many parentheticals!

  • Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On) – Talking Heads | Not a jam band but the track has elements, especially the way the lyrics are layered and looped. One of my all time favorite songs.
  • “the Perfect Idiot” – Fievel Is Glauque | This was the second song I played on my WAWL show. It’s weird and wonderful, jazzy and full of wacky chord changes.
  • Spiders (Kidsmoke) – Wilco | Now we’re getting jammy! I didn’t go with a live version because I haven’t found one that hits me emotionally like the original studio recording.
  • K.G.L.W. – King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard | Going down under for this one. The spouse of a friend (who might also be a friend; I should ask) is big into these guys. Every time I head from him it’s about how I need to really listen. A canonical modern jam band.
  • 1983 (A Merman I Should Turn To Be) – Tropical Fuck Storm | Love the band, love the name. This cover of a Hendrix classic is so much fun, particularly the way TFS does the lyrics. Had to bleep the band name on the show.
  • Bound For Glory – Tedeschi Trucks Band | Solid track. I love to tell the tale of me meeting Susan Tedeschi when we sat next to each other on a Delta flight & we got drunk.
  • Surprise Valley – Widespread Panic | Til The Medicine Takes was the first WSP album I owned. Fun fact: I thought they were from Austin for so long, but they’re from Athens (GA). OK. Maybe it’s not that fun a fact.

I have much planned for Chord Drift, so stay tuned!
